Radio Earth Hold is an interdisciplinary research collective founded by Rachel Dedman, Lorde Selys and Arjuna Neuman. Our work explores the potential for planetary forms of solidarity, channelled through sound, radio and the elemental. REH#1: The Colonial Voice, our first broadcast, draws connections between radio's colonial histories and resistance potential in Palestine, and indigenous midwifery practices in North America. Recent research has been channelled into a reading and listening group, Weather or Not, exploring relationships between music, technology, the body and climate, with a network of interlocutors. A forthcoming broadcast examines the atmospheric, looking at the elemental origins of Delta Blues music, and the weaponisation of the weather in Palestine. Radio Earth Hold has collaborated with Navel, LA; Gasworks, London; Serpentine Galleries, London; Mansion, Beirut; Biennale Warszawa, Warsaw; Qalandiya International IV, Ramallah; and Nottingham Contemporary, UK.

Siyada / The North African Food Sovereignty Network (NAFSN) is a unifying structure that includes peasant-based organisations and grassroots associations, farmers/agricultural workers/fishers unions and social movements. The network strives to achieve food sovereignty, climate and environmental justice in North Africa.

In 2011, Nadir directed and produced his first film, “My Makhzen & Me”, a web documentary about Morocco’s February 20th uprising. Nadir’s other works include “Timnadin N Rif,” a performative documentary produced collectively by the community of Imider in southeastern Morocco; and “Paradises of the Earth,” a short web documentary series on the environmental causes of the Tunisian revolution. In addition to his work in film, Nadir is also a researcher, photographer and writer focusing on cinema, but also on popular uprisings, land rights and environmental justice in Morocco’s marginalised regions.Based in Marrakech, Soumeya Ait Ahmed is a multi-disciplinary art programmer and producer, with a background in urbanism and management. In 2019, Soumeya co-founded AWAL, an archival programme focused on oral arts, at LE18 where she has co-produced several collective and individual exhibitions. In the framework of LE 18, she has also conceived and curated Halqa f’Dar, a platform dedicated to the artists of the Jemaa el Fna square in addition to collaborating on a variety of research projects. Soumeya is also one of the initiators of Derb El Warcha, an alternative school dedicated to the children of Derb el Ferrane.
Launched during the Covid pandemic by LE 18 (Marrakech) and inscribed within the dialogue established since many years with the artists of the Jemaa el Fna square, Halqa f’Dar is a digital space which aims at activating a mechanism of recognition, redistribution and solidarity in response to the conditions lived by the majority of the halayki in this time. Taking the form of video or sound ‘episodes,’ the project invites the performing artists of Jemaa el Fna to present, discursively or performatively, the art of their halqa from their home. Therefore, storytellers, singers, acrobats and snake charmers will share the traces of the oral and performative art embodied by the halqa they carry, and their subjective understanding of the past, present and future of this art in relationship to its existence on the Jemaa el Fna square in particular and in public space more in general.
Abderrazzaq Baba is maalam* of the Dakka, an art whose origins reside in Taroudant, but that continue existing in Demnate and Marrakech, where it distinguishes itself for the role of the Malhoun. Inheriting this art and role from his uncle Mohammed, Baba is the current chef of the mythical musical group Ait Rabaîne which since decades performs and transmits this oral art.
*The term maalam (master) is here preferred to the more common (in the Marrakech context) denomination ‘laazaoui’ due to the discriminatory/racialised connotations embedded in this latter.
Mohamed Bariz is a Hakawati (storyteller) and one of the post-colonial pioneers of Jemaa El fna square. Having performed there for more than 50 years, Bariz has accumulated and transmitted an enormous repertoire of oral stories ranging from historical oral epics, to local myths and legends, from call-and-response riddles to adaptations of films into oral creations. A child of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali (a neighborhood in the outskirts of Marrakech), he started practicing the oral arts starting at the age of 10 when he fled his parent household to travel from halqa to halqa in the region of Beni Mellal. He was one of the key figures behind the recognition of Jemaa El fna square as a UNESCO world heritage site. He has been performing the art of the halqa locally and internationally.
Hajiba al Maqori Azalia is a storyteller (hakawatia) who inherited the art of the halqa from her father, the maalam Abderrahim al Maqori al Azalia. She has been performing in different contexts in Morocco and she was nominated best hakawati during the festival Maroc hakaya of Rabat in 2018.

نادر بوحموش مخرج ومنتج يعيش ويشتغل في مراكش. أنتج بوحموش عام 2011 فيلمه الأول بعنوان "مخزني وأنا"، وهو عبارة عن وثائقي رقمي تطرق لاحتجاجات 20 فبراير بالمغرب. من بين أعماله الأخرى نجد أيضاً "تمندين ن ريف"، وثائقي أدائي من إنتاج جماعي بمنطقة إيميدر في الجنوب الشرقي للمغرب، و"جنة الأرض" سلسلة وثائقية قصيرة على النت بخصوص القضايا المجالية للثورة التونسية. بالإضافة إلى عمله السينمائي، يشتغل نادر كباحث ومصور فوتوغرافي وكاتب متخصص في السينما، ولكن أيضا كمناضل في الاحتجاجات الشعبية بخصوص الحقوق المدنية والعدالة المجالية في المناطق الهامشية بالمغرب
سمية ايت أحمد هي منتجة ومنسقة فنون متعددة التخصصات ذات خلفية في علم العمران والإدارة، مقيمة في مراكش. في 2019، شاركت بتأسيس آوال وهو برنامج لتوثيق الفنون الشفهية في فضاء 18 حيث ساهمت أيضًا بإنتاج العديد من المعارض الفردية والجماعية. في إطارعملها في 18، ابتكرت سمية ونسقت منصة "حلقة في الدار" المخصصة لفناني ساحة جامع الفناء، بالإضافة إلى تعاونها في مختلف المشاريع البحثية. كما شاركت بتأسيس "درب الورشة"، وهي مدرسة بديلة لأطفال درب الفران
أطلق فضاء 18 في مراكش هذا المشروع خلال جائحة كوفيد تبعًا لنقاش بدأ قبل عدة سنوات مع فناني ساحة جامع الفنا. الحلقة فالدار هي مساحة افتراضية وبادرة تضامنية تريد تفعيل ميكانيزمات الاعتراف وإعادة التوزيع في مواجهة الظروف المعاشة لأغلب الحلايقة. متخذ شكل حلقات عبر الانترنت، يدعو هذا المشروع الفنانين المؤدين بساحة جامعة الفنا لاقتراح نسخة فيديو لتقديم فن حلقاتهم الخطابي أو الأدائي من منزلهم. هكذا، سيشارك معنا الحكواتيون والمغنون وفنانو السيرك ومروضو الثعابين الآثار التي يحملونها من الثقافة الشفوية والأدائية المترسخة في الحلقة، كما سيشاركوننا فهمهم لماضي وحاضر ومستقبل هذا الفن في علاقة مع تواجده في ساحة جامع الفنا بالتحديد ومع الفضاء العام عمومًا
عبد الرزاق بابا هو معلم* دقة، إحدى الفنون التي تعود أصولها إلى مدينة تارودانت، ولكنها متواجدة في دمنات ومراكش حيث تتميز بدورها عن فن الملحون. ورث عبد الرزاق الفن ودوره عن عمه محمد، حتى أصبح قائد فرقة آيت الربعين الموسيقية التي تثوم بعرض ونقل هذا الفن الشفوي منذ عقود

حجيبة المقوري أزلية هي حكواتية ورثت فن الحلقة عن والدها معلم عبدالرحيم المقوري الأزلية. تقدم حجيبة العروض في مختلف الفعاليات في المغرب وتم ترشيحها كأفضل حكواتية في مهرجان حكايا في الرباط في 2018
