Taking place on the roof-top community garden of Dar Bellarj, this conversation with farmers Yara Dowani and Anas Salous will discuss the journey of Om Sleiman, a community supported agriculture farm (CSA) founded in 2016 in Bil’in, Palestine. The talk will discuss ways of producing healthy and fair food through regenerative agriculture, and the farm as a space for community learning and sharing knowledge. The talk will also raise questions about urban planning and space allocations for agricultural lands, the farm as an educational platform, and the possibilities to reshape the politics of food distribution in the direction of sustaining smaller-scale networks of producers and consumers.

Yara Dowani from Jerusalem, is a co-founder and farmer at Om Sleiman Farm in Bi'lin. She studied permaculture in Marda-Salfit and has volunteered on numerous farms in Palestine and Europe. She was also part of a research group focussed on studying wild perennial plants.

Anas Salous obtained his MA in Humanitarian Action in Malta in 2018, and got stuck doing environmental farming at Om Sleiman farm since then. At first he didn’t like the idea of caring for plants and now he enjoys helping other projects starting their own productive edible gardens. Salous believes that food sovereignty, localization of resources and recreating our relationship with our land is the way to liberation.

A continuation of QANAT’s interrogations, this circle and the ones coming up in the next two months take water, its marine spaces and terrestrial infrastructures, as a starting point to explore different forms of resistance to dominant narratives and manifestations of power.

How can we sketch new possibilities for living together otherwise grounding on what water and its cultures carry and keep murmuring to us?

Underwater mythologies, aquatic cosmologies, popular narrations, and stories, but also current and past struggles, human and non-human across different territories will be the starting point of our conversations.

تستضيف هذه المحاورة في حديقة سطح دار بلارج المزارعين يارا دواني وأنس سلعوس لعرض رحلة أم سليمان كمزرعة مدعومة مجتمعيا تم إنشاؤها في عام 2016 في بلعين، فلسطين. سيتطرق النقاش إلى طرق إنتاج غذاء صحيّ وعادل عبر الزراعة المتجددة، والمزرعة كمساحة للتعليم المجتمعي ومشاركة المعرفة و يثير أسئلة حول التخطيط الحضري وتخصيص المساحات للأراضي الزراعية والمزرعة كمنصة تعلّم. كما سنستعرض إمكانيات إعادة تشكيل سياسات توزيع الغذاء لرعاية شبكات أصغر تصل المنتجين بالمستهلكين

يارا دواني من القدس مزارعة و مؤسسة مشاركة في مزرعة أم سليمان في بلعين. بدأت رحلتها بعد دورة (زراعة مستدامة) امتدت لأسبوعين في مزرعة مردا. من بعدها قررت الذهاب لإسبانيا للتطوع و التعلم من مشاريع و مزارع. عادت الى فلسطين وانضمت لمجموعة من الباحثين لدراسة وتوثيق النباتات البرية المعمرة في المنطقة. ثم انضمت لمزرعة ام سليمان في عام ٢٠١٨ وما زالت جزءًا منها.
يحمل أنس سلعوس درجة الماجستير في العمل الإنساني من مالطا (2018). بعد إتمام دراسته توّرط في ممارسة الزراعة الطبيعية في مزرعة أم سليمان. في البداية لم تعجبه فكرة العناية بالنباتات والآن يستمتع بمساعدة المشاريع الأخرى في خلق حدائق خضروات خضراء. يؤمن أنس بأن السيادة الغذائية وتوظيف الموارد المحلية واستعادة علاقتنا مع الارض هي طريق
