Flows in Ayloul | أيلول ذنبه مبلول
With time flows in all directions_water flows through me by Dina Amro, Three metres away or less by Khalid Odeh, Shortcuts by Daniela Delgado Viteri, and Rayyis al-Bhar, by Firas Hamdan and Shayma Nader.
Flows in Ayloul is an exhibition proposed by Shayma Nader for the online exhibition programme of Qanat Cura. It follows long conversations in and out of quarantines, curfews and lockdowns - under similar states of emergency - about taking care, of ourselves, of our sanity, of friends, families and futures. The only recourse for many of us was fiction ― comparing the present condition to sci-fis and dystopias, doing collective exercises in prediction, and imagining ways out.
This exhibition invites three artists who use performance, documentation, and fiction in their work blurring the lines between the real and the not. Fictions made up of fragmented memories that overflow into the present to disrupt, tease, and comfort, revisiting histories and suggesting alternative ones.
Dina Amro’s sound piece documents rain’s summoning songs, and conversations about the connection to the environment and water sovereignty by women from Beit Iba, Arrabeh, Dheisheh camp, Taybeh, Beit Rima, and various other places across Palestine. In her work, she brings together half-forgotten fragments from the past, and improvisations layered with her own compositions in live performance. What she proposes is a double revival, one of memory and another of a future that otherwise would’ve been lost. [︎︎︎]
Khalid Odeh’s work questions how memories, places, and histories are constructed and shifted. His photos were taken in May 2019 when he visited the Baptism site/al-Maghtas on the east bank of the Jordan River for the first time. After hours of waiting and moving from one meeting point to another, then walking towards al-Maghtas, passing by the original - now dry - location. Odeh says: “The moment I arrived, I wondered if I had already crossed to the other bank: Was I in Palestine? Has the Jordan River really been moved? In any case, even if I hadn’t crossed, I was only three metres away or less.” [︎︎︎]
Daniela Delgado Viteri’s short film is made of five fictional interviews about small acts of resistance and shortcuts we need to take in order to subvert and bypass existing powers, she says, “shortcuts are all about alternative forms of rebellion and resilience taken in everyday life such as going to political rallies for free sandwiches and live music.” [︎︎︎]

أيلول ذنبه مبلول هو معرض تنسق له شيماء نادر ضمن برنامج "قناة تروي". يأتي المعرض بعد محادثات طويلة عن الرعاية خلال وبعد فترات الحجر والإغلاقات ومنع التجول؛ رعاية أنفسنا وعقولنا وأصدقائنا وعائلاتنا ومستقبلنا. كان الحل للعديد منا هو اللجوء للخيال - مقارنة الأوضاع الحالية بقصص الخيال العلمي والديستوبيا، تمرين قدراتنا على التنبؤ وتخيّل طرق ننفذ عبرها إلى المستقبل
يدعو هذا المعرض ثلاثة فنانين وفنانات يستخدمون الأداء والتسجيل والخيال في أعمالهم لطمس الحدود بين الحقيقي والمتخيّل. خيالات مصنوعة من أجزاء ذكريات فاضت إلى الحاضر لتعرقل وتُعاكس وتواسي، عبر الرجوع في التاريخ واقتراح بدائل للحاضر
يوثق عمل دينا عمرو أغاني الاستسقاء وذكريات وآراء حول العلاقة مع الطبيعة والسيادة على الماء في محادثات نساء من بيت ايبا وعرابة ومخيم الدهيشة والطيبة وبيت ريما ومناطق أخرى في فلسطين. تدمج عمرو في عملها قطعًا شبه منسية من الماضي وارتجالات موسيقية تؤديها النساء ومؤلفاتها الخاصة التي تقدمها في عروض حية. ما تفعله هو إحياء مزدوج؛ إحياء للذاكرة وإحياء لمستقبل كان قد يضيع لولا استحضاره
يستكشف عمل خالد عوده عملية صنع وتحويل ونقل الذكريات والأماكن والتواريخ وأثرها على الفرد والواقع. التُقطت الصور في أيّار 2019 في زيارته الأولى للمغطس على الضفة الشرقية من نهر الأردن. بعد انتظار طال ساعات ونقله والمجموعة من نقطة تجمع إلى أخرى، من ثم المسير باتجاه المغطس مرورًا بالموقع الأصلي الجاف، يتسائل خالد في لحظة الوصول "ما إن كنتُ قد عبرتُ النَّهرَ للضِّفَّةِ الأخرى: فلسطين؟ هل حقًا تعرّضَ نهرُ الأردنِّ للإزاحةِ؟ على أيِّ حالٍ، فإنِّي وإنْ لمْ أَكُنْ داخلها، كنتُ على بُعدِ ثلاثةِ أمتارٍ أو أقلّ."
أما فيلم دانييلا ديلغادو فيتيري فيتكوّن من خمس مقابلات خيالية عن أفعال تمرد صغيرة وطرق مختصرة نحتاج إلى أخذها للإطاحة بالقوى السائدة، "الطرق المختصرة هي أشكال عصيان بديلة نأخذها في الحياة اليومية مثل الذهاب إلى الحفلات الانتخابية لأكل الشطائر المجانية وسماع الموسيقى الحية."
